  • Weoley Park Road

Created by Dawes Jaguar // 0 threads

The sections of Weoley Park Road service road could be linked with short cycle paths to create a cycle route. Alternatively, take some of the road space away from the road proper (it is very wide) to create segregated cycle paths.

  • Old Barn Road <-> Charfield Close

Created by Dawes Jaguar // 0 threads

This link is part of a suggested cycle route between Northfield and Selly Oak. The bitmac is falling apart and needs to be replaced. In addition there is a narrow path in the middle that could be widened. Making it shared use is probably technically necessary, though given its short length (a few metres), engineering overkill.

  • Conversion of Footpath to Shared Use

Created by Dawes Jaguar // 0 threads

Converting this path to shared-use (with appropriate signage) is a simple way to encourage cycling. There is plenty of space to widen it, and this would be especially beneficial at the lower end. Hint: people, including police officers, are already cycling on this path.

  • Conversion of Fire Track to Cycle Path

Created by Dawes Jaguar // 0 threads

The route shown is a fire track. There is a chain across the Teazel Avenue end, and the grass is armoured (with concrete). It would be nice to have a dropped kerb each end and the chain replaced with one or two removable bollards. Better still, replace the black bitmac with red bitmac where the new cycle path crosses the footpath that runs alongside Gallows Brook. This would create a first-class demonstration of filtered permeability, and without any major changes.

  • Cut-through on Lugtrout Lane

Created by Bracken VanRyssen // 0 threads

Currently there are pedestrian fences, bollards and curbs separating the two sections of Lugtrout Lane, preventing easy access from one section to the next and avoiding cycling along the 40 mph plus Damson Parkway. This would be an ideal point for some dropped curbs and appropriately spaced bollards to increase permeability for cyclists. There is clearly latent demand for a decent cut-through as the area to the left of the railings has had the grass worn away by the imprint of bicycle tyres.

  • Maas Road

Created by Dawes Jaguar // 0 threads

Maas Road used to be two way, and was a quiet road upon which cyclists could bypass the motorised traffic that has been allowed to totally dominate Northfield High Street. Then it was turned into a two-lane, one-way rat run, and became a barrier to cycling. It should be restored to two-way for cycling.

  • Morville Street cycle link

Created by Chris Lowe // 0 threads

To increase filtered permeability here, a shared-use pavement restoring the Morville Street route for cycles would be useful. There is a dropped kerb at the Ryland Street end, but a dropped kerb will be needed at the Ruston Street end.

It is also important to provide a contra-flow access for cycles to Ruston Street.

These two links are already informally used by local cycle users, but could do with formalising, so that they appear on cycle route planners.
